Perhaps the most famous Yogin of all time, the historical sage known as the ‘Buddha’ is a treasured and universally honored symbol of the spiritual propensity of all human beings. His very life story epitomizes the yogic path, from his discovery as a youth of the sufferings of the world through his deep introspective practices, from his awakening (bodhi) to his immortalized teachings (dharma) on impermanence (anitya) that strongly helped to shape the formation of Yoga philosophy and practice in India. Here he stands with elegant robe in one hand, bearing the gesture that grants enlightened consciousness (cit-mudra) with the other.
