THE GOPAS AND THE GOPIS IN AMOROUS PLAY (on silk, framed)

Krishna and his gopa (cowherd) playmates, having now grown to adolescence, sport with their beloved gopis (cowherdesses). A wild scene, Krishna and some of the men and women 'attack' each other with dispensers from the temple that spray perfume and saffron powder while others keep a musical tempo to this joyous play. The scene is adorned with the exquisite Yamuna river in the background, highlighted with ashoka bushes bursting with berries, symbolic of the ripening of the love between these divinely human playmates.
