THE CONSUMMATION OF RADHA AND KRISHNA (framed, on silk)

20” x 25” with frame

After a long series of adventures, heartbreak, jealousy, and reunion, Radha and Krishna are drawn together once again to consumate their divine love. Set on a lovely couch, backgrounded by the lush forest of Vrindavan, the two lovers meet within the sacred temple to engage in lovemaking. Surrounded by worshipful gopis offering libations, the agonizing wait for the two lovers is over. Jayadeva paints a picture of a nervous Radha, fearful of being hurt, slowly loosening her resistance to the dark Lord:

from the GITA GOVINDA chapter XI--

"As you cling to your love in graceful play, nails on your hand are arrows of love--let your ringing bangles go to him! Wake Hari (Krishna)! Claim his intimacy! Krishna is faithful to you, fool. Follow him, Radha!
Revel in the fragrant chill of gusting sandal-forest winds! Your sensual singing captures the mood. Revel where cries of flocking cuckoos sweetly sound! Your teeth glow like seeds of ripe pomegranate. Radha, enter Krishna's intimate world!
Bearing you in mind so long has wearied him with love. He longs to drink your sweet berry lips' nectar. Ornament his body with yours now! He worships your lotus feet--a slave bought with Shri's flashing glance. Are you still afraid!?
