| Ardhanarishvara |
|
| Depicted as the one androgynous form called the ‘half-man, half-woman Lord,’ Ardhanarishvara symbolizes both the inter-dependency of male and female sexual energy while at the same time represents the very source of all universal opposites as deriving from the union of energy (Shakti, left side) and consciousness (Shiva, right side). The half-man, half-woman Lord became a very important philosophical image in the non-dual Tantric tradition. Read about the Tantric symbolism of Shiva-Shakti. |
