Rasa Lila Collection
The Rasa Lila (‘Intoxicating Play’) dance is the culmination of mystical communion between Krishna, the transcendent Lord who is the soul of the Universe, and the Gopis (cowherd women), who represent the beautiful expressions of universal creation. All of our Rasa Lila paintings depict episodes of the divine love play between Krishna, Radha (the incarnation of the Goddess Lakshmi), and the Gopis that are directly inspired by the devotional Bhagavada Purana (“Story of the Lord”), and the Gita Govinda (“Song of the Dark Lord”), an erotic poem about the union of Krishna and Radha by the medieval bard Jayadeva. *Each one-of-a-kind painting in our collection was hand-painted in India with vegetable dyes on silk and canvas by indigenous artists.*
